What is The Behavioral Health Risk Assessment (BHRA)?
The Behavioral Health Risk Assessment (BHRA) is similar in concept to the widely-used Health Risk Assessment (HRA). But, whereas the HRA primarily assesses and promotes physical health, the BHRA assesses and promotes behavioral health and emotional well-being. The BHRA incorporates the behavioral change model known as SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment). SBIRT is a highly validated, evidenced-based method which utilizes motivational interviewing techniques and change talk to help you effect positive behavioral change.
To commence the assessment process using the BHRA, you will answer a 20 question pre-screen that takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. You can complete this screening in the privacy of your own home, and the results will be transmitted electronically to your coach/counselor. This pre-screen will assess your risk for 15 specific behavioral health conditions. Should your pre-screen results indicate that you are "at risk" for one or more of these conditions, you will be directed to a separate web-based intervention module for each condition that has been identified.
Each intervention module contains a validated screening tool that will enable you to accurately measure your level of risk. If your risk level is significant, the module will also:
- guide you through a brief intervention
- help you explore motivations and strategies for implementing behavioral changes.
- recommend various treatment resources, if needed; and
- prompt you to periodically re-screen and chart your progress over time
