My approach to therapy is holistic - the perspective that the physical, emotional, social and spiritual realms of our lives interconnect. This leads me to focus on the whole person, rather than on a specific diagnosis. My goal is to help my clients take personal responsibility for their own growth, by actively pursuing more positive thoughts, attitudes and behaviors - so they can move on with their lives, rather than remaining stuck in their problems. I use an eclectic blend of supportive, cognitive-behavioral, and existential theories. I'm also certified in EMDR, addictions and Guided Afterlife Connection Therapy.
I serve adults in transition - unresolved grief, addiction recovery, LGBTQ issues (and the adjustment of family members for both of these populations), resolving traumatic experiences and abuse, emotional eating, relationship issues, and exploring your spirituality. Like being a good parent, if I do my job right, I'll work myself out of a job.
I respect each individual, regardless of who they are. I am the first therapist in Missouri trained in a new grief therapy (Guided Afterlife Connections) and I sit on the advisory board of the LikeMe Lighthouse, a new LGBT Community Center in Kansas City, MO (opened in 2012).
